  30. The demo is identical to the full version except the following restrictions:

  32. - 30 minutes testing period.

  34. - No saving of modules, instruments and ensembles.

  36. - No library of macros and instruments

  38. - Cut, Copy and Paste functions are disabled.
  39.  
  40. - The audio-file-export of the Tapedeck modules is disabled.

  42. - Only files prepared for the demo version can be opened.

  48. From the downloaded zip-file or from CD:
  49.  
  50. To start the setup program please open the Unzip folder or the folder on the CD with the
  51. Explorer and doubleclick on "Setup.exe". Alternatively you can start the setup, if you 
  52. choose Run in the Start menu, locate the setup folder and execute "Setup.exe".

  54. The setup program creates the necessary folders and decompresses and copies the files of
  55. the installation.

  59. If you do not choose another folder the setup program creates the folder
  60.  
  61.   C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Reaktor 2.0.3 Demo\

  63. and the following subfolders:

  65.   \Bin\       - contains the files necessary for the execution of the program
  66.   \Examples\  - contains the demo examples

  68. In the Start menue at "Programs/Native Instruments" you find the entry "Reaktor 2.0.3 Demo"

  83. Please use the File menu to open the Ensembles which have been installed in the
  84. Examples folder. You can edit but not store them with this version.

  88.                       ++++++++ Using soundcards ++++++++            
  89.  
  90. When running a soundcard as audio interface, the settings of REAKTOR can be adapted 
  91. to the card. For this purpose please choose "Soundcard" in the menue "System/Audio Port"
  92. and open the appropiate dialog by "System/Audio Settings...".
  93.  
  94. If more than one soundcard (or driver port) is installed, the select boxes "In Port" 
  95. and "Out Port" allow the choice of the soundcard (or the driver port) to be used 
  96. by REAKTOR. An In Port can only be run without problems, when the chosen Out Port
  97. is on the same card. 
  98.  
  99. There are two types of drivers for soundcards under Windows 95: Multimedia Extension (MME) 
  100. and DirectSound. In most cases a DirectSound driver will deliver shorter response times
  101. than an MME driver. For the use of DirectSound it is necessary to have the Windows 
  102. extension DirectX 5.0 (or later) installed on your PC. If necessary you can download it 
  103. from the Microsoft website

  106.                    ------- Minimizing the delay -------
  107.  
  108. You can minimize the delay of the audio output on your computer system by
  109. adjusting the minimum buffer size needed by your soundcard.
  110.  
  111. With the sliders "Record ahead" of the In Port section and "Play ahaed" of the 
  112. Out Port section you can adjust the size of the audio buffers. The smaller the
  113. buffers are, the faster is the response of GENERATOR. However, if the buffer is
  114. set too small, clicks will become hearable in the audio output. 
  115.  
  116. To find the minimum applicable buffer size, please load an ensemble and play it. 
  117. Move the "Play ahead" slider to the left until audio clicks become hearable. Then move
  118. it back to find the point where the clicks disappear. Now you have found the minimum 
  119. output buffer size for your card.
  120.  
  121. You can find the optimum position for the "Record ahead" slider in a similar way, 
  122. when you wire the ADC with the DAC in the ensemble structure window, connect an audio
  123. source with the card input and monitor the card output.
  124.  
  125. The Timing Resolution can be switched between 5 ms, 10 ms and 20 ms. The selection 
  126. of 5 ms delivers the most precise relative timing. The minimum output delay and 
  127. processor load can depend on the resolution. Therefore 10 ms and 20 ms are available.

  129. If the soundcard is well configurated, the In and the Out lamp of the Contol Box are
  130. lit green.
  131.  
  132. Please note, that the input and output levels of a soundcard depend on the settings 
  133. of the mixer on the card. You can control this device by the Volume Control, a Windows
  134. accessory, the Multimedia Properties of the Control Panel or a mixer program, 
  135. delivered with the soundcard.

  139.                   ++++++ GENERATOR MIDI Driver ++++++
  140.  
  141. The "genmidi.dll" driver is installed with this demo version and can be used to couple 
  142. GENERATOR to other MIDI applications like sequencers. It provides an MIDI outport named 
  143. "Generator Synthesizer", from where MIDI events are internally routed to the GENERATOR
  144. MIDI inport "Generator internal Midiport".

  148.                       ++++++ Uninstalling ++++++
  149.  
  150. You can remove the demo installition by the following procedure:
  151.  
  152. 1) Open Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.
  153.  
  154. 2) On the page "Install/Uninstall" you find a list of installed applications. 
  155.    Select "Reaktor 2.0.3 Demo".
  156.  
  157. 3) Click on "Add/Remove" and confirm with "Yes".
